The New 7 Wonders
Posted by anne
A parent at my daughters’ school pointed out this
Web site
as a fun summertime activity for kids, but it’s a fun summertime activity for anyone! With the Great Pyramids of Egypt standing as the only remaining “Wonder of the World,” the New7Wonders Foundation (created in 2001) launched a global poll to select the New 7 Wonders of the World. Use your artist's eye, appreciation for creative work, and familiarty with artistic challenges to help the world select the most “wondrous” architectural achievements dating any time before the year 2000. A list of 21 nominated sites includes such marvels as
The Taj Mahal
(built in 1630 A.D.),
The Acropolis of Athens
(built between 450 and 330 B.C.), and
The Great Wall of China
(220 B.C and 1368 - 1644 A.D). Winners will be announced July 7, 2007, at the Official Declaration ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal, which means—today—there are 18 days left to vote!
